What are your dreams this summer?
I have a plaque in our sitting room with the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf quote "If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough".
My husband, Rhys, & I have made most of our choices in life with this view in mind:
Newly married & having both lost our jobs in one gut-wrenching weekend; Rhys applied to the Royal College of Art to do his Masters & I travelled up & down the M4 in a National Express coach interviewing for jobs that would support us both in Central London. He got in!
Almost a decade later, we happily discovered I was pregnant with Tydeman (our eldest) & Rhys was offered a job with Nokia Design, in Los Angeles. We announced both pieces of "Good News" to the soon-to-be grandparents at one go (ouch!). I left my career at Estee Lauder to figure out "being a mom", we rented out our coveted Spitalfields apartment & started a new life here in California!
In the last 4 1/2 years we moved our family of 5 into a small cabin in order to one day build our dream house, Rhys put his "side project" into action & launched Omata the first analogue bike speedometer & I started my company...
If something is so safe you're not just a little bit nervous are you really challenging yourself? Could you do more? Might there be more out there for you?
If you have an opportunity, you have a support system of people who love & care about you, well, to borrow the Nike catchphrase; Just Do It! Give it a go! If it doesn't work out, you'll have learned something more about yourself & you won't always be wondering "What if I'd tried...?"
So this summer, do your dreams scare you?
